Here are some of the changes regarding mobile food vending laws around the country.
Food trucks are now allowed in public property in Akron, Ohio but operators need to shell out an annual fee of $1,750 plus an application fee of $225. This fee is for prime locations on Locust Street. Aside from that, additional restrictions in the ordinance forbids food trucks to operate within 50 feet from a residence, 200 feet from a brick and mortar restaurant, 750 feet from a park and, 1,000 feet from a school.
Owensboro on the other hand, has permits costing $250 annually plus $400 for those who want to operate in the downtown entertainment district. An additional permit is also required to operate near a city park. All other locations will be open but operators need to be at least 100 feet from a traditional restaurant and 1,000 feet of a school. As of press time, only one company has applied for a license.
To encourage more entrepreneurs, Kitchener has considerably lowered their annual fees from the $1,097 that was initially proposed to the approved $350 annual license fee. The distance restriction to restaurants was also lowered from 200 meters to 20 meters. Nearby Waterloo has also decreased their food truck license fees from $2,215 to $329.
Columbia, Missouri has also opened up its public spaces for food trucks to park and operate.
