Texas Tech University (TTU) has just inaugurated the first food truck that will start operating on campus this coming fall 2014. It is the first among all the Big 12 to provide this type of food option to students. StrEat, just like all other dining establishments on campus, is operated by the university’s Hospitality Services Department. The concept actually started in a StrEat eatery housed in the Student Union Building (SUB).
The truck was done by On The Move, Inc. in West Boerne. Their menu includes tacos and Monte Cristo’s plus side dishes with vegetarian options. But the menu will be changed on a monthly basis and will feature diverse and creative dishes from the hospitality service’s culinary team.
Truck Schedule:
Mondays and Wednesdays – Memorial Circle
Tuesdays and Thursdays – Health Science Center
Fridays – to be announced via Facebook and Twitter
According to Associate Managing Director of TTU Hospitality Services, David Deason, they wanted to serve high traffic places on campus where university food services are currently unavailable. They also target students who don’t have enough time to eat and need to grab a bite on the go.
Since Texas cities are pretty popular with mobile street food, students are familiar and used to eating this kind of food. Lubbock does not currently allow food trucks to operate in certain locations, but the StrEat food truck does not violate any of these restrictions.
